ANXIETY COUNSELLING
Understanding Anxiety: Am I Experiencing Anxiety?
Although anxiety is an emotion we all feel, and are meant to feel, some people’s nervous system is wired to experience it when we have no tangible threats present.
Think about your smoke detector in your kitchen. You’re cooking bacon and all of a sudden the smoke detector goes off. You run to the device attached to the ceiling, waving your towel furiously to get it to stop. Phew, false alarm!
This is exactly what anxiety looks like in your body. False alarms to the threat of danger, consistently. You may feel hypervigilant to threats, engage in worst case scenario thinking, have persistent worries, and feel exhausted.
Anxiety can seep into many areas of our lives and impact how we show up in our relationships, our work, and for ourselves. We have good news for you- we have supported hundreds of people through their anxiety symptoms, guiding them to inner peace and restoration.
How Counselling can Help you Overcome Anxiety
So you’ve identified that you feel anxious, now what!?
In anxiety counselling you will learn how to work WITH your anxiety, rather than against it. What we resist persists. You will explore what's at the root of your anxiety- why you are feeling a lack of internal safety. In identifying your threats, which are connected to your core beliefs and wounds, you will be able to increase your awareness around your anxiety. Awareness is the firsts, and most challenging, step to change.
You will then work with your anxiety counsellor to create a personalized anxiety tool kit. These skills will allow you to challenge your anxious thoughts, replacing them with more adaptive ones. You will be equipped with a range of self-soothing skills, increasing your resiliency and ability to cope. There is a way through, and we are here to help you get there.
Effective Treatment for Anxiety Relief
We do not use a cookie-cutter method, anxiety counselling is unique and tailored to each client. Some helpful therapeutic modalities that may be used are dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, somatic therapy, and attachment based therapy.
